James Fenimore Cooper

   James Fenimore Cooper was a popular American writer of the 19th century. He was born in Burlington, New Jersey, the 15 September 1789. When he was one year old, he moved with his parents, William and Elisabeth, to Cooperstown in central New York. In 1806, he became a sailor in the Navy. At twenty, he inherited a fortune from his father and the next year, on January 1, he married Susan Augusta de Lancey and they had seven children. Among his most famous works is the Romantic novel The last of the Mohicans. Definitely, Cooper has contributed a great deal to the genre of American fiction.



 Some of the books that he's written are:
  • Precaution (1820)
  • The Spy: A tale of the neutral ground (1821), the first historical romance about the American Revolution. 
  • The Pioneers (1923)
  • The last of the Mohicans (1826), his best selling book. 
  • The Praire (1827)
  • Notions of the Americans (1828), a defense of the United States against the attacks of European travelers. 
  • The American democrat (1838)
  • The history of the Navy of the United States of America (1839)
  • The Pathfinder (1840)
  • The Deerslayer (1841)
  • The cruise of sommers (1844)
  • Lives of distinguished American naval officers (1846), a biography.
